Random Update

Been busy working on the LOTR cards. Mostly drawing a variety of characters and creatures -- trying to find out which ones I like to draw the most, which ones I'm best at. I'm also spending a lot more time on each card than I did for Revenge of the Sith. So far I think they're turning out alright. I probably won't fully hit my stride until I'm, like, a hundred cards in.



Not much else to report. Those of you that are still waiting on commissions, thanks for your patience. I'll definitely get to 'em as soon as I can. I'll need a break from Middle-earth now and again over the next month. :)

LOTR: Evolution

Finally I can let you guys know what I've been working on -- the cards were announced this morning in the new issue of Previews!



I'll be doing hand-drawn sketch cards for the set until the end of the year, so busy times ahead. Many hobbits, many Gollums, many Aragorns, many Witch-Kings... you get the picture. I'm really excited about 'em though -- they're gonna look great :)

Of course this means I can't post any of my cards until the set comes out in February though. Aaghh!!! heh :)

Yoda vs. Sidious: Steps

Sorry for the lack of updates around here. I've been workin' on a big sexy secret project and it's gonna keep me busy until the end of the year. I'll be able to tell you what it is later this week.

So here's a fun little thing to kill ten seconds -- a visual step-by-step on how I colored my Yoda vs. Sidious picture! And you've probably seen my half-assed Photoshop coloring tutorial, right? Yeah. Well, if not, maybe you wanna check it out. Blarr. Okay, back to the drawing table.

Aragorn Sketch

Fun fact: Viggo is one of the toughest people to draw. Seriously, give it a try. There's something weird about his bone structure.. or eyes.. or something. Anyway, I've been trying to nail down a solid look for Aragorn and I think I finally found my groove tonight. Seems like it's just a matter of memorizing the shapes and where everything goes. He's got kind of a coyote-shaped face.

Drekodinn Update

All those Drekodinn pages I drew earlier -- SCRAPPED!! I was boring myself, and I was trying too hard to make it mechanical and I was drawing what I thought people liked and not what I enjoyed creating, blah blah blah (I'll spare you the long, boring story about trying to find myself as an artist). Bottom line is -- I redid every page and I finished 'em up last night, and, man, does it feel good. I stuck to the sketchy style I enjoy and hand-colored every page with greyscale markers, and here's a look at some of the panels, so you can see what I'm talking about:







I'm sure a lot of you would've preferred my cleaner Photoshopped stuff over this, but when you're doing a comic for FUN (ie. not getting paid for it; i.e. working on it in the wee hours of the night after coming home from a day job and catching up on commissions), having FUN doing it is more important than pleasing the masses. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

So... Here's where we're at:
My pages are done, Matt and Genevieve are almost done with their pages (well, I know for sure Matt's are almost done), and the final cover is on its way. Starting probably tomorrow I'll be assembling the pages, lettering, etc. So, yeah.. We're getting closer. It's almost here. I can almost taste it!!!! O.O

Red Sonja Commission

Remember that Red Sonja & Conan image I did back in September? A guy emailed me saying that he loved the Sonja pose and was wondering if I'd be able to do a private commission for him -- same pose, but hand-colored with marker. So here it is :) (Keith - if you're reading this, thanks again for the commission! I think it turned out better than the original. heh)
