Children of the Grave

I did a pin-up for IDW Publishing's upcoming "Children of the Grave" TPB, which is hitting stores July 2006 (and available for pre-order right now at Amazon). Dan Brereton's doing the final cover art, and my girlfriend Jessica Hickman is doing a pin-up as well, so I hope you all buy a copy! :)

A Real American Heroine

This was kind of an experiment. I wanted to try skipping the ink stage and just go straight from pencils to coloring. I'm not sure how much I like it. But hey, this is how one becomes a better artist: you try new things and you keep on drawing and learning about your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing is half the battle.

Here's a close-up shot of her face, if ya wanna check that out and see how messy and scribbly this thing is.

Wonder Woman Sketch

My girlfriend started up a Wonder Woman sketchbook, and I got to be contribution #1. So here she is -- I tried to make her look a little older and stronger than I usually do.

Vader: Legacy

I was bogged down in stuff last night and wanted to take a break -- I had the urge to draw Vader. So here's what I came up with. Not quite sure why I put Luke and Obi-Wan in there. Guess I was going for some generational legacy type of theme. Anyway, have a fun weekend, peeps.

Slave Leia MADNESS

Hey, if any of you have a Hyperspace membership, check out this link: 'Slave to Leia'

You'll find some nice Slave Leia fan pics.. and hey, a drawing by me!! (Keith, I guess that card just doubled in value -- it's been featured on the official site!! heh)

This photo, unfortunately, is not by me. This is just to grab your attention.

If you can't click the starwars.com link, here's the site they're talkin' about: www.leiasmetalbikini.com

Boba Fett & Darth Nunb

Couple more cards -- Still trying to catch up on these things. But hey, how often can a guy say he drew Nien Nunb as a Sith Lord? :P

Oh, and here's a Topps Yoda card I colored:

As always, if you want info on ordering Personal Sketch Cards and/or if you have a Topps card you want colored, just head over to GrantGould.com and click on "SKETCHCARDS."

Throw it in Reverse

I know this is a crappy little drawing -- I just want to make a point about seeing images in reverse. I don't know if I'm the only one, but when I draw something, the proportions or alignment of the pic become tangled in my brain -- I often have to hold it up backwards to a bright light and see it in reverse. This shows me (a) how much it sucks, and (b) what I need to fix. Here's the below image in reverse. See what I mean? Hmm. Maybe I'm crazy, maybe it's a right-brain/left-brain thing. I dunno. Just thinking out loud here. It's my blogspot and I'll cry if I want to.

I promise, I'll have some cool stuff to post soon. I've just been catching up on work and sleep.

The Battlestar Song

And here you didn't know I was also a songwriter!! Sheeesh.. Anyway, sorry to put more non-art in my art blog. I just had to once again prove that I am the biggest dorknerd of them all.

The Battlestar Song
by Grant "way too much time on his hands" Gould

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful ship
That blasted from Caprica's port
For an unexpected trip.

Adama's a mighty awesome man,
Apollo brave and sure.
The cylons didn't like our ways
So they blew up our world.. They blew up our world

And then things started getting rough,
The Battlestar had jumped,
But thanks to the courage of the fearless crew
To find Earth they're pumped.. To find Earth they're pumped

Galactica cruised the galaxy, tried every trick they know.
With Number Six
And Kara Thrace,
The drunken colonel, it's Saul Tigh!
The crazy doc..
Then there's Boomer and Tyrol, too
Good Gods, we love this show!

So this is the tale of the runaways,
They'll run for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

Adama and Apollo too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable.
Those cylons never rest.

No hope, no home, no Pyramid,
Not a single luxury,
And, dammit, Laura Roslin's
As sick as she can be.

So join us here each week, my friends,
For all their highs and lows
Those frakkin' cylons never quit
Good Gods, we love this show!

Space Quint

My girlfriend created a character called Space Quint based on our cat Quint, so of course I had to draw my own rendition of the fuzzy man :)

Galactica Battlebuddies!

These aren't real toys, obviously.. This is just me messing around and wishing I were in charge of designing Battlestar action figures for kids. Not that it's a kids show or anything.. heh :)

Cylon with light-up red eye!! Apollo with toaster-blaster!! Starbuck with trusty sidearm! I'm thinking there'd have to be a Starbuck variant -- a rec room version with cigar in mouth.

BSG Pic - Sketch

I used a lot of photo reference for this, trying to get down actor likenesses and poses.. Not sure if it'll be finished or not. The guy I drew it for isn't satisfied with the layout/characters/etc.

TV worth watching

I know this is an art blog and I shouldn't be posting non-art stuff here, but too bad. I need to let every human know how awesome these shows are (plus i don't have any new art because i was captain creative block all weekend, so there ya go). Lost on wednesdays, Battlestar Galactica on fridays.

If you're not hooked on these shows, trust me, you wanna be. Go buy the Season 1 DVDs and catch up. I can't say enough about 'em. I know there are a lot of other great shows out there, too, but really I only find time for a couple hours of TV a week, and Lost and Battlestar are the ones that pull my nerdstrings the hardest.

As for drawing schtuff.. Well, like I said, I had a brain fart this weekend, but I feel energized again, so I should have new art to show soon. Another busy week for me!
